Get Your Kicks - On Route 66

Recently I finished up a project I've been wanting to try for a long time - a sign celebrating the history of Route 66. I gathered license plates from each of the 8 states that the iconic road travels through, and used them to create a border and then road emblem shape using them all.

I took particular care in cutting the black border arounds the state highway shape, using 1969 Kansas license platers. The letters spelling out ROUTE took quite a bit of time and effort. This piece took forever to make! I also learned many lessons about what you can't do with license plates :)

Shout out to the Windy City

After creating the Empire State piece I almost immediately began planning a series of iconic buildings made from license plates. I think this is going to be fun! Chicago's Sears Tower is the subject of this second piece. Created using vibrant red license plates from Illinois, this artwork would look so good in an office or studio downtown! I'm going to be selling these pieces directly from my website. Feel free to forward a link to a friend in Chicago if you like how this looks.
